MARC JACOBS BEAUTY Foundation and Concealer

MARC JACOBS BEAUTY Genius Gel Super–Charged Oil–Free Foundation

MARC JACOBS BEAUTY Remedy Concealer Pen

I have been extremely curious about the new Marc Jacobs Makeup range at Sephora. I have read many good reviews about the products and I am also very into packaging. This line of cosmetics is extremely well packaged, designed with black lacquered lids and rounded pod-like palettes, it looks very sleek and modern (which I didn't expect any less from the master of style Marc Jacobs). Since Australia doesn’t have Sephora, I had to wait till someone going to US to bring some back for me. Recently my cousin got me a goodie-bag from Sephora and in it was a sample pack of the foundation and concealer from Marc Jacobs.

The foundation is called “Genius Gel Super–Charged Oil–Free Foundation” and I have it in Bisque Medium. I would describe Bisque Medium as a light-medium shade with yellow undertone, which is a pretty good match to my current skin tone. (MAC NC20, NARS Pujab/Fiji, YSL B30, Chanel B20) There are 16 colours in the range, which is not bad for a new brand.

The texture of the foundation has a gel-like consistency that’s light and slightly creamy at the same time, so it does live up to it’s name. It blends easily, the gel seems to melt on contact spreading thinly and evenly onto the skin, this I believe would help with the layering of the product, but I didn't get enough in the sample pack to try this. According to the description it can be layered to a full coverage, but I really doubt this because the finish is too light.

The formula doesn’t settle into lines, with just enough coverage to evens out the skin tone while still look and feels fresh and natural. I do wish it had a tad more coverage. In the picture I layered with the Remedy Concealer Pen on my troubled spots. The foundation didn’t make me shiny or oily by the afternoon, this is a major plus for me as my skin is very oily.

BOTTOM LINE: lightweight gel foundation with light to medium coverage and semi-matte finish which sits well on normal to oily skin.

The concealer is called “Remedy Concealer Pen” I have it in "#1 Rendezvous", which is the lightest shade. “#00 Stand Corrected” and “#0 Bright Idea” are two universal colour correctors.

“#1 Rendezvous” looked very light on my skin but it did blend into my skin tone reasonably well. If I was to choose I will go for '#2 Wake-up-call" which looks "peachier" (with peach undertone). I applied the concealer under my eyes and all over my eyelid as a base for my eye make-up, it covered my freckles and redness around eyes pretty well. It is fragrance-free so no trouble for the delicate areas around the eyes. The liquid blends smoothly, providing light-to-medium coverage with a matte finish that lasts. It didn't settle in to creases and by the end of the day and it kept my make-up looking fresh.

On the website you can see it comes in a sleek black tube with a "patented palladium applicator” which according to the description it cools on contact to reduce puffiness. I think the packaging looks fantastic but I don’t really believe the palladium applicator will actually help puffy eyes at all. Puffy eyes are a result of fluid retention or fat around the eye area shifting as we age, cooling it will not have any affect other than it feels nice briefly. However even if I don't buy into the sells pitch, I am still going to buy this concealer, because overall this is still a pretty amazing product.

BOTTOM LINE: fragrance fee, light weight concealer with medium coverage and a matte finish that lasts.
