Capsule Wardrobe

On my journey to declutter and live a minimalist life I have been inspired by works of Un-fancy and Project 333 to create my personal Capsule Wardrobe. A Capsule Wardrobe is a compact wardrobe made up of staple pieces in coordinating colours, normally in the realm of 30 items (including shoes as well), but I’m not that brave yet so I’m trying for around 50 first.

How does one live on so few items? I remember the days of opening my wardrobe full of clothes but still have nothing to wear. Pairing down to capsule wardrobe is about discovering everything I love and finding things I would love to wear all the time.

I have started curating my Ultimate Capsule Wardrobe, it’s not just your run of the mill t-shirts and jeans, I want Chanel Bag equivalent in wardrobe. To make into my Ultimate Capsule Wardrobe it need to fulfil couple things on my list.
  • First it need to be well made and high quality. The idea is that these pieces would last you from season to season, year after year, so it need stand up to multiple wears.
  • It need to be classic in style. Forget bell bottom and frills, each item need to be neutral in its styling as it can be difficult in mixing some styles together (though not impossible) but I like to keep things classic and simple.
  • Ideally it can be dressed up or down. It’s impossible to have all occasion clothing, but if possible choose clothes with potential of dressing up and dressing down.
  • Most importantly, need to love it. It need to bring joy when I look at it and wear it.

From Top Left

I wouldn’t rush out and buy them all as my aim to declutter is the antitheist of consumerism.  This is part of my research as I experiment with looks and styles I love, so I can live on a lean closet. I will progressively update my closet as I declutter and replace items in the coming months.
